Born and Raised in Jacksonville, Florida and Savannah, Georgia, Wolchok developed an interest in the avant‐garde while in college at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida where he studied under Robert Ray. The Artist lives in New York City and his work is a part of major collections in London, Cleveland, and New York City.

“How high The earth” explores the intersection of defining moments in American history, using the complex connections latent in these images to create a striking postmodern visual order. In the work, the Artist appropriated Herman Leonard’s famous picture of Dizzy Gillespie performing at the Royal Roost in 1948 and re-created with the earthrise moonscape taken during an Apollo mission.

Bob Dylan - Tefillin on the Head is the most recent work by conceptual artist C. Robinson Wolchok. This piece explores the connection between Bob Dylan as an American icon and his Jewish roots. Appropriating the cover of Dylan’s legendary singer/songwriter taken by an unidentified visitor to the Western Wall in Jerusalem in 1983. Dylan was in Israel for the celebration of his son’s bar mitzvah, and was photographed wearing refilling and a prayer shawl. Tefillin are small cubic leather boxes worn on the head and arm which contain scrolls of parchment inscribed with versus from the Bible. Observant Jews wear them on weekdays during morning prayers to signify that one’s thoughts and actions should always be directed toward spiritual goals. Rather than exclusively material pursuits, throughout their lives.

Dizzylune explores the intersection of the resonance of Dizzy Gillespie’s oeuvre, specifically his famous rendition of the 1940 Morgan Lewis standard, “How High The Moon” with classic NASA images from the 1970s. In the work, the Artist used the connections latent in these images to create a striking postmodern visual order, appropriating Herman Leonard’s famous photography of Dizzy Gillespie performing at the Royal Roost in 1948 superimposed by the classic NASA image.
